Care of Dressings

It is recommended that dressings should be checked at least twice daily, if you have any concerns please have him checked by a vet.

Dressings must be kept dry, your animal should wear a protective bag on the dressing whenever taken outdoors otherwise the dressing will get wet and damp.

Chewing of the cast and sutures must be prevented. This can cause serious complications. Please use a buster collar if any attention is paid to these sites.

Application of dressings such can potentially lead to problems. Signs to watch for are;

- the dressing becoming moist or wet from inside

- the dressing or leg develops an unpleasant smell

- the dressing suddenly causes more irritation than normal

- the dressing or leg causes significant or worsening discomfort

If any of these signs are observed then your animal should be checked by a veterinary surgeon as soon as possible.
