We are pleased to offer physiotherapy to surgical patients during their period of hospitalisation and we are able to offer the same service to out-patients by appointment. Esther O'Driscoll, head of 'in-patient care and physiotherapy' will be pleased to develop a treatment plan, perform and guide owners with physiotherapy for your pet.
Physiotherapy plays an important role in the rehabilitation of your dog and cat following surgery and aims to improve function and speed recovery, increase strength and performance, decrease the requirements for non-steroidal medications and preserve muscle, nerve and joint function. Patients undergoing orthopaedic and neurological surgery and those being treated for musculo-skeletal injuries and gait abnormality can all benefit from physiotherapy.

Listed below are some of the techniques performed:
Massage.
Range of motion exercises
Passive and Assisted therapeutic exercises.
Aquatic therapy.
Thermotherapy.
Proprioceptive training for neurological conditions.
TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation).
Dynamic muscle stimulation to selectively improve muscle bulk and strength.
We are seeing great benefit derived from the application of physiotherapy and hydrotherapy in orthopaedic and spinal patients and believe the combination or appropriate surgical/ medical management and physiotherapy/ hydrotherapy is the gold standard of treatment.
